Bond Revoked, Thompson Deemed Threat By Mouth To Community

Jonesboro, Louisiana ---- 10/17/2013----On September 11, 2013 the first African American mayor of Jonesboro, Louisiana was tried and convicted in a court of law by an all white jury. The former mayor was found guilty on three counts of malfeasance. Bond was granted but later revoked on grounds that Leslie Thompson's mouth was a threat to the community. Former Mayor Thompson faces a 15 year sentence on Thursday October 17th 2013 for crimes he did not commit.

Months prior to this conviction Thompson was arrested for shaking the hand of a white councilwoman. He entered a nolo contendre plea, paid a fine and faced no criminal charges. It would be three months later that the local sheriff charged the mayor with three counts of malfeasance – trumped up charges based solely on one common racist thread.

During the lower court trial the Jonesboro District Attorney presented a slideshow where a photo of Osama Bin Laden was presented as representation of the mayor. A second slide depicted a picture of President Obama and was captioned "Where Is Obama". All attempts for a mistrial were denied by Judge Teat.

Jonesboro, Louisiana is located in the northern portion of the state of Louisiana. It's population is said to be approximately 3,900 according to the most recent United States Census Bureau statistics.
